As well as inshore success, Sanders Sails have proved themselves in many offshore races this year. David Cooper with his Dehler 38, ‘Longue Pierre’ has had a stunning year competing in the RORC and JOG offshore series’. With a magnificent trophy collection including wins from the Cowes-Cherbourg, Nab Tower and St Malo races, Longue Pierre went on to win the Illingworth Rose Bowl for the JOG series overall. In the RORC series, they began the year well winning the De Guingand Bowl Race,
Round Eddystone Race and Channel Race but then lost their lead when they were forced to retire in the sever conditions of the Fastnet Race. Only a win from the Cowes-Cherbourg race would do to gain back the series win and sure enough Longue Pierre held off the competition to win the Jolie Brise Trophy and the Cowland Trophy for IRC class 3 Overall series win. Next season we wish Longue Pierre equal success with a double victory offshore. |
